Dan grade Interview News.

If you have not already seen Sensei Riley's interview, you can now view it by clicking on the link to the left of this newsletter.

Those of you who have seen the interview, I am sure you can see why it is of great advantage to hear what not only the Sensei's have got to say but also the other Dan grades as well. Sensei Riley's interview is the perfect example of filling that important gap between student and Sensei. This meaning that I am sure all of us have at least one question you have wanted to ask your Sensei since you started training in Aikido, I know I have, so this is the ideal way to fulfil your curiosity about not only your Sensei but Aikido in general.

Sensei Riley has done a wonderful job in answering the student's questions, and especially in great detail. The answers Sensei has written give a great insight into his journey through aikido, both good times and not so good. Again I would like to thank Sensei Riley for taking the time to answer the interview questions in as much detail as he has done.

Sensei Derrick now has his questions and is at present, like Sensei Riley, taking the time to answer them. I will inform you of when the interview is to be published on the website.

Your next Dan grade in the firing line is Sensei Tony Heseltine 5th Dan, of the White Rose Aikido Northeast Dojo.

Please send your questions to Ashley. Again as usual, please maintain respect at all times and keep it clean! Questions which contain inappropriate material can be asked to the Dan grades face to face, not on the White Rose Website.

3rd September Course & Grading News.

Firstly can I thank all those who helped with the moving of the mats on the day. Without your help it would have been very difficult for the course to take place.

Thank you.

Again an excellent course conducted by Sensei Riley and Sensei Heseltine with a number of different variations shown with as usual great precision.

Thank you to John Pryce, an ex student of Sensei Riley and Sensei Heseltine who has trained and taught in Japan, not to mention, receiving tuition from other parts of the world. His tuition was extremely educational and I would like to thank him again for taking the time to come and train with us.

Now to the gradings,

Congratulations to all those who took examination and were successful, in particular,

Bernard Crossley in achieving (Yondan)

Bernard has been part of the White Rose Aikikai for over 20 Years. Bernard has also taught the Wednesday (Beginners Class) for a number of years.

Congratulations Bernard.

Joe Maung in achieving (Shodan).

Again an exceptional examination by Joe. Joe conducted the grading with confidence, spirit, and precision.

Congratulations Joe.

Sensei was again very impressed with the standard of students who took examination and also very pleased that the message has stook, BE PREPARED, this showed on the day so well done everyone.

Well done to John Pryce on being awarded Sandan by Sensei Riley and also congratulations to Jane McLaren on being awarded Shodan.

Website News.

The website is still been updated regularly throughout the month so please keep checking the site. All subheadings are now on one page (Contents Page).

You can scroll down to the article, or page of interest and click on it from there. This is to save room on the homepage and prevent clutter.

The online syllabus has a slightly different overview as well. You can now click on the grade you are aiming towards and refer to the syllabus you are studying. Also in the higher grades, which require Jo Suburi, there is now a link page from the syllabus to all the names of the movements for the 1 to 20 Jo Suburi. Please note, this page is not printable, please refer to the downloadable syllabus to the left of the online icon for the printable version. You will need to download Adobe Acrobat to view this.

Light Humour.

Well done to Peter Noddins for making it to not only the last couple of classes with his pants, but even to the course on the 3rd of September.

Just to enlighten everyone, Peter came to the Thursday class a couple of weeks ago. On arrival he apologised to Sensei Riley for not wearing his pants under his hakama.

It seems that Peter's cat has a urinal issue and felt the need to relieve itself on his freshly washed Aikido pants.

One can only hope that Peter now has his cat under control and no such incident will happen again.

(I hope this version of events was accurate enough Peter. I know how much you wanted it on the newsletter).
