June Course and Gradings.
Wakefield City high School was host to the June course and gradings. As usual a very informative course conducted by Sensei Riley on what was a sweltering hot summers day. Also, congratulations to all those students who passed their gradings.
New Huddersfield (Slaithwaite) Class.
From the 3rd July, the White Rose will be conducting classes from Colne Valley Leisure Centre in Slaithwaite Huddersfield. The class will be for all levels, both beginners and experienced students will be catered for.
The class starts at 8:15pm till 9:45pm.
The new instructor will be Ashley Scholefield.
On the 3rd July, Sensei Shane Riley will be teaching the first class, also senior Dan grades and experienced students from the other classes will be attending to support the opening of the new dojo. Everyone is welcome so please get down if you can.
Club insurance.
The association has now sourced a new insurer the AMA.
This will not affect any one directly but will make the admin side of insuring people a little bit easier for our licensing officer. The only thing that it will affect is that when renewing your license, you MUST have your association/grading book signed by whoever takes your money. If you have no proof of insurance you will not be allowed on the mat. There will be no exceptions to this rule. No insurance no training.
Grading Officials.
We now have a new grading officer.
Bernard Maloney has now taken over the duties of Jackie Beaumont. Jackie has been a faithful and diligent servant to the association for many years and has had to stand down due to work commitments. The association would like to thank Jackie very much for all her hard work she has put in on behalf of the association.
Guess Who?
Congratulations to Alex Shaw on getting the guess who correct first this month. The guess who is Sensei Shane Riley in his younger days.
Hong Kong.
Any students who are attending the Hong Kong Aikido Association Seminars in November MUST now confirm their attendance with them. I am aware of some students that have already done so, so please, if you have not yet confirmed then I would recommend that you do at your earliest convenience.
Lowestoft Course.
This course has been postponed until further notice.
Website.
It has been reported to me that sometimes it is not possible to gain access to the website via the 'Enter Website' button.
If anyone else has this problem please contact Ashley with the details of the problem. This will enable me to troubleshoot the error.
Final Note.
Congratulations to Olessia Naden for being awarded 2nd Kyu & permission to wear hakama.
For those who were not present when Sensei awarded Olessia her 2nd Kyu, Grades are not usually awarded to students without first taking an examination in front of two or more official grading officers, however, due to the commitment and spirit shown by Olessia over the past two years since she graded 3rd Kyu, not only has she improved immensely, but has shown true spirit and commitment in her training. Olessia only attends the Thursday night class and as I am sure some of you can imagine, Thursday nights is not for the faint hearted.
Olessia takes vigorous ukemi for most of the Dan grades on a Thursday, sometimes gentle sometimes not, but never complains and just gets up again and again.
A grade well deserved WELL DONE!
