July 2008 Newsletter

Frequency of Newsletters

Firstly, apologies for there being no newsletters in recent months, I have spoken to Sensei Riley and it has been decided that the newsletter will only be published quarterly.  The exception to this will be if there in information on Courses which will be emailed out using the White Rose Distribution list, so if you are not currently on the distribution and wish to kept informed on current courses email us at enquires@whiterosaikido.com and you will be added.

Shihan Ken Cottier

As many of you may know at the beginning of June Shihan Cottier passed away which is a great loss.  Shihan Cottier will be greatly missed by everyone at White Rose who had the pleasure of knowing him.  We are in the process of creation a memorial section in dedication of Shihan Cottier so keep any eyes on the main page for the link to this section.

DVD Release

Next for news is the release of the second white rose Aikido DVD which focuses on Henka Waza which is the ability of change.  The DVD can be bought via the Red Lizard website for £17.99(including postage and packing). There are some video clips from the DVD in the media section if you want a small taster of what is on the DVD

Official White Rose Fleeces

We also have some official White Rose Fleeces up for sale as well. There are plain Black fleeces with the White Rose Kanji embroidered onto them, the fleeces are waterproof and are of excellent quality.  The price is £35 (+postage and packing) and come in a variety of sizes ranging from S - XXL.  If you are interesting in purchasing one email us stating what size you would like and i will pass on your to Sensei Riley for the next order

Monday Night Class in Durham

On the 28th of June Sensei Riley along with Chris Laycock and Paul Derrick travelled up to Durham to teach the Monday Night Class.  The class was well attended a large number of Sensei Heseltine’s students.

Sensei Riley started the class with Gyaku Hanmi Tai No Henko and then Morote Tori Sokumen Iriminage. After the intial warm up techniques Sensei Riley moved onto teach Morote Tori Ikkyo from both static and a move movement based version.  These were followed by Juji-garame and then Sokumen Iriminage and Kote-gaeshi to finish off the class.

Following the class Sensei Riley joined a number of student’s for cool down drinks in one of Durham local pubs.

Autumn Course

There is a course planned for September/October at present.  I do not have any further details about it at present, but when I do i will post them in the courses section of the website as well as send out an email.
