|
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Late August 2005.
Sensei Riley's interview is now online and available for reading. Dan Grade Interviews.. This month Sensei Paul Derrick is in the firing line. He will be happy to answer any questions you may have for him so please email all your questions to ashley@whiteroseaikido.com Don't forget this is your opportunity to ask any questions you wish to the Dan grades up for interview, so please take advantage of it. Again, please keep it sensible and maintain respect at all times. Students are permitted to ask more than one question. From next month, Dan grades will be interviewed by just one student within the White Rose. You may contact us if you wish to put your name down for interviewing Dan grades, otherwise students will be asked at random if they would like to compile between 10 -15 questions for the Dan grade up at that specific time. Website News.. Please remember, the club DVD has been awarded DVD of the month in combat magazine. This is just one of many achievements the White Rose has made and I am sure I can speak for all members when I say "there are many more to come". Well done to everyone involved in the making of Ma-ai Critical Fighting Distance. There is little time left before the next issue of combat, so if you have not yet got a copy, please do so before 1st September. The website now has it's own Online shop. You can purchase anything from Clothing to DVD/Video's and books. The shopping cart is a secure server which supports paypal, and you are able to pay via credit card. To purchase from us you will need a paypal account. This is free to set up and a link to it is on the homepage of the website. If you are requiring a club DVD and you are a club member, please contact Ashley first as you are entitled to a discount. Please feel free to browse the website. You will find various different links to such features as Video clips, Interviews etc.. The website is being constantly updated with new products in the shop to new links to pages of interest, so do please keep logging on and checking. I have recently spoken with Sensei Derrick and he now has the facility to add photo's to the gallery. New photo's are already on the page so again please keep checking the site for updates. We have had numerous emails from our link partners congratulating us on a fantastic website saying " it is the way they would like to take their own website in time". On this note please keep your questions coming in and browsing the pages of the website. We can only achieve compliments like this with your help so please carry on contacting us with all your news and gossip. Further News.. I would like to thank all those who have offered to help with the mats on the 3rd September. For the people that are helping, Mark Danford and Ashley will be meeting up at Silcoates School with you and from there travelling to the lockup where the mats will be loaded for transport to Silcoates School. Please meet at 8.30am at Silcoates School ( 3rd September ). Course news.. We have a guest instructor teaching on the day. John Pryce is an ex-student of Sensei Riley and has been training and teaching out in Japan for a number of years. He has also trained with some of the most formidable instructors in Japan, so as you can imagine he has gained a wealth of knowledge whilst he has been out there, which I am sure, he will be happy to share with us on the 3rd September. We have quite a few gradings taking place on the day some of which are senior examinations. It is essential for the lower kyu grades to attend courses like this with senior gradings taking place. It is your opportunity to look at your piers and see what you are aiming towards, also to get familiar with a senior grading procedure. Don't forget, you will not be a kyu grade forever and the more you progress, you will see how important is was to watch the senior gradings taking place to enable you to see what is expected from you on the big day. The course and grading costings are as follows.. Course All Day £10.00 Examination Fee £5.00 Kyu Grades Examination Fee £20.00 Dan Grades As mentioned in the previous newsletter, please ensure your name is down for taking examination, if indeed you are eligible. You will not be permitted to take examination if you have not informed your club instructor by now. The deadline for entry was the 20th August 2005, exactly 2 weeks prior to the grading day. This deadline is in place to enable Jackie to deal with the administration for those students who have entered for examination. Exceptions may be made in certain circumstances. Abbe Sensei Anniversary News.. As some of you may know, Sensei Riley, along wth some of his fellow Dan grades, attended Crystal Palace for the 50th anniversary of Abbe Sensei. The day was very eventful in some ways, especially for Sensei Riley. A lovely compliment came from a little Japanese girl asking Sensei Danford if Sensei Riley moisturised. This was due to her recognising Sensei's wonderful, young looking complexion. As I am sure you could all imagine, Sensei riley was very flattered, however his response still remains a secret. I am since told that Sensei Hesletine was very impressed with the comments when he heard them and in his own little way congratulated Sensei Riley on the compliments he had received over a few drinks. From there on, there was shopping around the stalls looking for bargains on Weapons, Hakama's, Gi's etc.. The training was very educational and both Sensei Riley and his students came away happy that they had attended the day and paid tribute to Abbe Sensei's 50 Years in Aikido. Hakama Embroidery. I have now collected hakama's for embroidery. If you require any embroidery for your Gi or Hakama, please let me know and I will take them for doing the next time I am in Halifax. Visit From Bermuda. And finally, thank you to John Manderson from the Bermuda Aikikai for his visit back to the White Rose. It is always a pleasure to have students and Sensei's alike from outside associations who take the time to come and train with us and we hope to see John again next year.
