Late September Newsletter.

Firstly I would like to congratulate Sensei Riley on the remarkable interview by Martial Arts Illustrated.

It is an interview like no other, going into great depth about Sensei's life in his 20's to the present day. With very detailed photographs of Sensei Riley and Uke's Andrew Thornton 3rd Dan, and Sensei Richard Haigh 4th Dan. The magazine is still available to buy in Smiths and other supporting newsagents, so please get one now before next months issue.

Sensei Derrick's interview is now online ( Click Here ). I would like to thank Sensei Derrick for taking time out of his busy schedule to answer all your questions.

Thankyou Sensei.

This month Sensei Tony Heseltine 5th Dan is in the firing line. Again as I have said before, please keep it clean and if you have any questions of a more " Adult " nature, please ask them to the Dan grades face to face.

New Apparel.

At last we have the new White Rose Aikikai baseball caps available to buy either at your club or online. The caps are of very good quality and come embroidered to the highest standard.

The layout of the cap has White Rose Aikikai on the front in the usual Japanese calligraphy and above the arc at the rear of the cap it reads www.whiteroseaikido.com.

The caps are very discreet and are on sale for £15.00 each to club members. You also have the option to have White or Gold embroidery on your cap. All caps come in black. If you really want to push the boat out, you can have your name in katakana on the peak of the cap for an additional £10.00.

The venue is very easy to find, off the M62 Junction 30 and follow the signs to Rothwell, Approx 1 Mile on the right hand side is Rothwell sports centre. When entering the sports centre, please go directly to the small sports hall.

Sensei Riley's 30 years in Aikido drinks.

In an earlier newsletter, I mentioned that Sensei Riley had postponed the celebration drinks to commemorate his 30 years in Aikido.

We now have a new date of the 15th October 2005 at Tristan Dance Studio's in Marsh, Huddersfield. Please Click Here for a map of the directions to the venue. Closer to the time myself or Sensei Bernard Maloney will be giving out written directions at the end of class. If either of us do not attend your class then your club instructor will have a copy.

The full address for the venue is, Tristan Dance Studio's, 28 Marsh Mills, HUDDERSFIELD, HD3 4AB.

We would be grateful if all students who are attending the celebrations could contribute £5.00 per head to help cover the cost of the Disco and Buffet. You can pay this here or at your club. The celebrations start at 8pm and will continue until the early hours. There will be a Bar, Buffet, Disco and large dancefloor for students and Sensei's to practise there moves and techniques.

It goes without saying that Sensei Riley has had a wonderful journey through Aikido and over the last 30 years he has had good and not so good times. Please make every effort to get there and show your solidarity towards Sensei Riley and join him in celebrating his 30 years of continuous Aikido training.

The New White Rose Dojo

As some of you may already know, Sensei Riley has been looking at permanent premises for the association. It has been quite a battle to find somewhere suitable for the club both in size and financially.

If anyone knows of anywhere which may be suitable for a permanent dojo in and around the Dewsbury, Mirfield, Huddersfield area please let myself or Sensei Riley know.

I would like to conduct a poll on your thoughts on having our own dojo with both pro's and con's you can think of. E.g, Would you travel?, Would you be prepared to share the maintenance?, Do you think we would be better off staying with the sports centres etc.

Please let me know your views on the plans for a new dojo by emailing ashley@whiteroseaikido.com

Sensei Cottier.

Ken Cottier Shihan

And finally, we are having Sensei Cottier to teach on the 10th December 2005 course and gradings at Wakefield City High School. All maps and directions will be available closer to the date.
