How important is taking grade examinations to the overall development of a persons Aikido?

What is your opinion on Aikido clubs which don't teach weapons?

Why did you decide to stay with Sensei Riley and the White Rose?

I have never felt the need to practice Aikido elsewhere.

How did you first become involved in Aikido?

I practised Judo for 4/5 years and first saw Aikido on a BBC programme called ' The way of the warrior '.
I took my two children to junior Judo at batley sports centre. The class following Judo was Aikido.
The instructor was Sensei Riley. I joined.

What does YOUR Aikido mean to you?

Aikido is an important part of my life.

We have heard in previous interviews that Sensei Riley was very strict and robust in his earlier day. How do you feel that has effected your view upon the way Aikido should be taught?

Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art which should reflect spirit, determination, respect and high standards.

What do you feel was your most difficult time on your journey up to Yondan?

There should never be an easy time in Aikido.

Is there any aspect of your training you still find difficult?

I understand that you taught your first class at 2nd Kyu. How important do you feel teaching is to students coming through the ranks?

Teaching Aikido is very important for the personal development of a senior student and will ensure high standards are being maintained.

You are the senior weapons instructor for the whole of the association. Why do you feel it important that all students learn the same method and style of weapons work?

Sensei Bernard Maloney.

It is important that we all practise the same style of weapons work that was developed and passed down by O'Sensei.

What is your most memorable moment in your Aikido career?

Achieving Shodan and then realising that my Aikido journey had just begun.
