I started training at the age off 22, and was immediately addicted to the realism and effectiveness that was being taught to me. Before starting I looked at other associations, however White Rose was always going to be my choice. I often trained three times a week, attending classes with Sensei Riley 7th Dan, Sensei Derrick 5th Dan and Sensei Hemmings 5th Dan.
Through the White Rose, I have been very fortunate to receive instruction from Shihan Cottier, Shihan Bayliss, Shihan Ezra and many others.
Training with the White Rose and Sensei Riley has always been dynamic and realistic. I dont talk in a negative way about other styles or associations, but the way of the White Rose and its seniors has always been the way for me, and have never ever felt lacking when attending large courses or seminars.
Discipline and etiquette is also a part of Aikido which I like. But I also believe in training with a smile on your face. Through the White Rose, I have made great friends and it always a pleasure to step on to the mat.
Due to personal reasons and work commitments, regularly attending White Rose classes is extremely difficult. It was a great honour to have the permission from Sensei Riley to open Shinko Aikido under his guidance. This was done with Ash Scholefield and my brother Mark Nicholls. I am happy to be able to share the instruction I have received from the White Rose, and pass it on to others who wish to learn a realistic, applicable style of Aikido.
